Foreign Minister says Maldives works to enhance foreign policy

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohamed Asim has stated that the Maldivian government continuously work to enhance the foreign policy of the country.

At the function held to introduce the publications by Foreign Service Institute of Maldives (FOSIM); Minister of foreign affairs, Dr. Mohamed Asim reflected on the important role played by the institute in building the capacity of the Foreign Service to deliver the foreign policy objectives of the Government. Minister Asim assured that Maldivian students will benefit immensely from the analyses and discussions in the FOSIM Quarterly, as the issue contains perspectives and opinions on various aspects of diplomacy on the history and progress made by the Foreign Ministry in the history. The Foreign Minister also congratulated the team at 2FOSIM for the diligent work in preparing the two publications.

The Handbook of FOSIM's programmes and activities introduces the programmes and activities being conducted by the Institute, and the programmes to be conducted in the near future. The FOSIM Quarterly - to be published four times every year aims to generate meaningful and informed conversation and dialogue about the processes, the contexts, and thought processes involved in foreign policy making. The perspectives are offered by Foreign Service officers.

The resident Ambassadors of China, India, Sri Lanka, Japan and Bangladesh, and representatives of the Embassy of Saudi Arabia, JICA, and the UNICEF Representative, attended the event held at the Ministry.

FOSIM was established on 16 January 2014, by President Yameen Abdul Gayoom, under the administrative structure of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the aim of promoting professionalism in the Foreign Service.
