Maldives Transport Authority has revealed plans to upgrade the port in the island of Maamigili in Alifu Dhaalu atoll as an international port.
Maldives Transport Authority revealed, the project to develop Maamigili International Port, would be carried out in collaboration with Maldives Ports Limited (MPL).
The port is expected to open new doors for further development of the island and the region. This gateway would be an especially crucial asset for resorts developed in the region.
In an exclusive interview with PSM, Chief Executive Officer of MPL Abdul Razzaq Haleem revealed that discussions have been held with the island council of Maamigili.
Officials of MPL and the Ministry of Economic Development held discussions on June 14, 2017. In this discussion the teams shared information on how the port would be developed into the Maamigili International Port. In the meeting the ideas and recommendations of the island council were taken into account. A final plan and procedure on the development of the international port was sent to the council on 20th of June.
MPL revealed that the development of the International Port, would create numerous job opportunities. MPL was assigned the task of upgrading the port, in May 2017.
