Maldivian government committed to Human Rights: Marium Jabyn

Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Marium Jabyn stated that international engagement demonstrate the Maldivian government's commitment to international human rights. She made the statement on PSM News' talk show, 'Talk Maldives'.

Speaking on PSM News' talk show 'Talk Maldives', Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Marium Jabyn said that, International engagements such as participation in the UN General Assembly and the UN Human Rights Council proves the government's commitment to international human rights. She said that international instruments of that sort need to be seen domestically, and that they are working on improving the situation.

Noting the number of enabling legislations to promote and protect human rights since the establishment of the new constitution, Jabyn added that the government will continuously work to overcome the challenges faced in the area of Human Rights and will also continue to present the issues to the council. She noted that there is no country in the world that does not face challenges in the area of Human Rights and guaranteed continued engagement in the dialogue.

Citing the tremendous effort by the government to overcome the challenges, she assured that they will work in identifying the challenging areas for the Maldives and continue to strive to overcome these challenges.
