Ambassador of Maldives to the United Kingdom (UK) and the European Union (EU), Ahmed Shiaan has said that, the keenness EU showed to work with Maldives would result in development of Maldives in various sectors and would turn out to a beneficial collaboration.
Speaking via video call from Brussels on PSM News’ talk show, "Rajje Miadhu" Ambassador Shiaan highlighted the necessity of assistance from other nations to strengthen the emerging democracy in Maldives.
The statement released on activities carried out in collaboration with the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs is a remarkable advancement, the Ambassador said. He said that it would have fruitful results in the future.
As per the principles of European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs, they would not intervene with the internal decisions of sovereign nations and would only make recommendations and release statements regarding their concerns of the collaborated nation.
Ambassador Shiaan revealed that officials from the European Parliament will visit Maldives and assist in developing the electoral system for the 2018 election. He noted that European Parliament is willing to deepen relations with the Maldives.
