President and Foreign Minister send condolence messages to China

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of condolence to the President of China, Xi Jinping, following the landslide in Sichuan Province.

In the President’s message, he said that he was deeply shocked and saddened to hear the news of the landslide in Sichuan Province, causing the loss of lives and extensive damages to property and infrastructure.

"At this time of national tragedy and mourning, I extend my sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved families and profound sympathies to the Government and the people of China,” the message further read.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Dr. Mohamed Asim also sent a message of condolence to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, Wang Yi.

In the Foreign Minister’s message, he said he was saddened to hear the news of a devastating landslide in Maoxian county of China’s Sichuan Province, causing loss of lives and damages to property and infrastructure.

“At this time of national tragedy, the Government and people of Maldives and on my own behalf, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to your Excellency and the Government and the people of China. Please also convey our sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved families,” the message said.
