Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohamed Asim has held bilateral meeting with his Indonesian counterpart, Retno Marsudi.
During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this morning in jakarta, Minister Asim expressed appreciation for the generous hospitality extended by the Government of Indonesia to him and his delegation.
Both the Ministers held fruitful discussion to cooperate in areas of mutual interest and exchanged views in intensifying cooperation in areas such as Human Resource development, Tourism, Fisheries, climate change, counter terrorism and enhancing trade and commerce. Further, they agreed to work more closely at the international fora, especially at United Nations.
The two ministers discussed several issues of common concern at the meeting, according to the Indonesian Foreign Ministry. Both Foreign Ministers declared the commitment of the two countries in the context of the Paris Agreement to combat the threat of climate change, as Maldives and Indonesia both faces climate change challenges.
At the meeting the ministers also discussed potential areas of cooperation, including tourism, fisheries and maritime cooperation, technical cooperation, connectivity, and trade. This is the second bilateral meeting of the Foreign Ministers. The two ministers had previously held a meeting at the Bali Democracy Forum (BDF) in 2016.
