Maldives discusses waste management project with AIIB

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has discussed the proposed project of waste management in the Greater Male' Region with the President of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) Jin Liqun.

At a meeting the President of AIIB Jin Liqun and Dr. Muizzu discussed the areas in which AIIB can provide assistance for the project. Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure revealed that the President of AIIB expressed keen interest in resolving the waste management issues through the project. Minister Muizzu delivered remarks on the seminar held at the sidelines of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

The remarks highlighted the importance of infrastructure development to cater for the future of Maldives taking into consideration adaptation to climate change. He also highlighted the infrastructural challenges in Small Island Developing States. The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank is a new multilateral financial institution founded to bring countries together to address the daunting infrastructure needs across Asia.

Maldives became a member of AIIB on 4th January 2016. Minister Muizzu is the Governor to AIIB from the Maldives. This year's annual meeting focuses on the theme of Sustainable Infrastructure.
