America’s decision to withdraw from the Paris accord is a setback

Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim has warned that America would face the impacts of climate change even though President Donald trump settled on withdrawing from the Paris Agreement.

The Environment Minister made this statement through a blog posted on online newspaper 'The Hill'. Highlighting the geographical differences of the U.S. and the Maldives, Minister Thoriq stated that even with these differences, U.S. will have to directly face the negative impacts of climate changes. He further stated that although government of the Maldives takes every available measure to mitigate the effects of climate change, climate change is a problem larger than any nation on earth and every state of the earth must work to ease this challenge.

Minister Thoriq added that small Nations like Maldives, should not be collateral damage to others' affluences. As the chair of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), environment minister Thoriq Ibrahim expressed concerns over President Trump's decision. He reiterated that America's decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord is a setback in holding global temperatures at safe levels.

In his blog post, Minister Thoriq stated that Maldives will continue with efforts to mitigate the consequences of climate change and assured that the Maldives will support other nations.
