Maldives urges to protect vulnerable groups in Myanmar

The government of Maldives has urged the government of Myanmar to ensure protection of all vulnerable groups and to protect women and children from ongoing violence.

The Maldives Mission to Geneva made the appeal at the ongoing 35th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), in Geneva. Advocating for the rights of victimized communities in Myanmar and Syria, Maldives also called upon the international community and the UNHRC to take meaningful action to alleviate the suffering of Syrians.

Maldives has been a member of the Human Rights Council for two consecutive terms in 2011-2013 and 2014- 2016 and is currently on a one year mandatory break.
