America wants to see Maldives as a country that conserve as a pillar of stability, democracy and prosperity all across the entire Indian Ocean Region, according to the Ambassador of the United States of America to Maldives Atul Keshap.
The Ambassador made the statement while addressing at the function held to inaugurate the American Center in Male' at its new location. The American Center Male' was inaugurated by the Ambassador with hopes of strengthening people-to-people connections and foster goodwill and understanding.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ambassador Keshap said that American government and its people envisions a Maldives that is peaceful, prosperous, moderate, democratic and stable. Ambassador Keshap reiterated that the United States would always work closely with the Maldives and remain engaged in Maldives, even though United States was one of the 30 countries that issued a joint statement which voiced concerns over the state of human rights in the Maldives at the United Nations Human Rights Council.
Furthermore, Ambassador Keshap said that this center serves as a important platform to significantly strengthen the partnership in Maldives with the government as well as individuals. He assured that the center will conduct outreach programs across the atolls, to strengthen the people-to-people connections with Maldives and increase understanding and partnerships.
American Spaces are a worldwide network of over 700 publicly-accessible places that enable U.S embassies and consulates to build and strengthen relationships with host country communities, showcasing American culture and values, promoting English language learning, encouraging study in the United States and fostering goodwill and mutual understanding.
The new American Center Male' is designed with latest technologies with computer work stations, iPads, books and DVDs. The government of America invested over USD 100,000 to construct the institution and to purchase the relevant equipment. The government of the Maldives provided the space, as well as staff to manage construction and programs.
At its previous location, the National Library hosted an American Corner, a resource center offering information and programming about the US. The new American Center It is located on the third floor of the National Bureau of Classification Building. The new center will offer expanded resources.
