Environment Ministry to procure waste management equipment

Ministry of Environment has signed agreements with three parties to procure equipment needed for the regional waste management centers. Minister of Environment Thoriq Ibrahim signed the agreements on behalf of Environment Ministry.

The agreement to procure equipment worth over MVR 3 million needed for the establishment of the regional waste management centers at Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu and Shaviyai Atolls was signed with NeoMed Maldives Private Limited. The equipment would be given to the island of Nolhivaramfaru at Haa Dhaalu Atoll, the islands of Goidhoo, Maaugoodhoo, Milandhoo and Komandoo in Shaviyani atoll.

Under this agreement, equipment required to safely dispose of plastic waste would be provided to the islands. Addressing the function, Minister Thoriq said that the equipment would be delivered to the islands this year.

The agreement to upgrade the waste management centre in the island of Thuraakunu in Haa Alifu Atoll was signed with EFive Company Private Limited. The project worth over MVR 995,000, is funded by the Maldivian government.

Furthermore, the agreement to upgrade the waste management centre in the island of Maroshi in Shaviyani atoll was signed with Aquamarine Holidays Private Limited. The project is worth MVR 898,000.
