Labor Relations Authority has stated that the authority should be the first point of contact in solving labor related conflicts.
Addressing a session held to increase awareness about the Employment Act, Head of the Labor Relations Authority Abdul Rasheed Nafiz said that most employees feel like the first point of contact in solving labor related conflicts is the Employment Tribunal. However, he said that this was nothing but a common misconception and that the first point of contact should be the Labor Relations Authority.
In the past couple of months, the Labor Relations Authority had surveyed labor conditions in various places. The working conditions of over 230 venues were inspected, according to the authority.
Director of the Inspections Division of the Labor Relations Authority Fathimath Shifna Abdulla said that in majority of cases, provisions in the Employment Act are not met, due to ignorance on the matters of both employer and employee. Director of the Awareness Section of Labor Relations Authority Mariyam Shurudha Usman said that they are carrying out numerous efforts to increase awareness among both employers and employees.
