Tourism can be developed by ensuring security: Tourism Minister

Minister of Tourism Moosa Zameer has said that Maldivian tourism can be further developed only by ensuring security for tourists and assuring that the country is a safe destination.

Addressing the inaugural function for the Tourism Sector Security Enhancement Workshop held at Dharubaaruge convention centre, Minister Zameer said that the country's tourism sector has reached these levels, only because of the confidence tourists have in the country as a safe destination. The Minister said that in order to enhance security, stakeholders would need to work hand in hand with the government and added that this in turn, can be achieved through dialogue induced decision making. Addressing the inaugural function, Secretary General of Maldives Association of Tourism Industry and Tour Operators (MATI), Ahmed Nazeeh said that the utmost priority should be providing a safe environment for employees and tourists alike.

Hosted by the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the National Counter Terrorism Center (NCTC) and MATI, the objective of the 'Tourism Sector Security Enhancement Workshop 2017' is to foster collaboration between security and law enforcement agencies and the tourism industry, to continue to identify potential threats to the tourism industry, and explore and agree on feasible and viable options to counter and mitigate these threats.
