Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim has departed to Switzerland to participate in the World Health Assembly, which will be held from 22-31 of this month, in Geneva.
Speaking with the press before his departure, Minister Nazim said that the conference will see member countries debate on health crises that need immediate attention. The Minister is also scheduled to address the assembly.
In his speech, the Minister would bring issues faced by small nations like Maldives to the attention of the international community. He would also meet with health minister from across the world including his counterparts from Saudi Arabia, China and Malaysia.
Addressing the press, Minister Nazim expressed hope that the assembly would assist the government's efforts in reinforcing the health sector.
The World Health Assembly is the decision-making body of World Health Organisation (WHO). It is attended by all WHO Member States and focuses on a health agenda prepared by the Executive Board. The main functions of the World Health Assembly are to determine the policies of WHO, appoint the Director-General, supervise financial policies, and review and approve the proposed programme budget.
The World Health Assembly is held annually in Geneva, Switzerland.
