Reconstruction efforts underway after tornado hits Addu City

The work has been completed on constructing the roofs of three of the thirteen houses damaged by the tornado that hit Addu City's Hithadhoo ward.

The construction work is being carried out nonstop, since Thursday night under the supervision of the special taskforce formulated by Minister of Defence and National Security, Adam Shareef Umar.

The government has also provided food and shelter for those displaced by the tornado and aims to complete all repair and reconstruction work, before Ramadan.

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom revealed Thursday night that government will be providing aid those affected by the tornado. The President's delegation of Special Representatives, currently in Addu City, are assessing damages and losses caused by the tornado that hit Hithadhoo Island on Wednesday night.
