President sends Special Representatives to Addu following tornado

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has assigned a delegation to be led by Minister of Defence Adam Shareef Umar, as Special Representatives of the President, to visit Addu and assess damages and losses caused by the tornado that hit Hithadhoo Island last night.

President Yameen inquired about the well being of Addu and its residents following the tornado that hit Hithadhoo last evening. The Mayor of Addu city, on a phone call with the President’s Office, clarified the city’s current state and of those affected.

“I am deeply saddened to learn of this incident and its effects on the lives and livelihoods of the residents of Hithadhoo. I will be monitoring the situation closely and hope to work towards alleviating any difficulties caused by this tragic event in the swiftest manner possible,” the President said.
