MNDF Coast Guard rescues 10 people stranded at sea

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) Coast Guard has said that the ten people stranded at sea after the vessel they were travelling capsized near the island of Hangnaameedhoo in North Alifu Atoll, have been rescued.

The vessel, named 'Kandu Roadhi' capsized in the Alihuras Channel, 10 nautical miles west of Adaaran Club Rannalhi, while travelling from Male' to Omadhoo.

The 10 people abroad the vessel were rescued by a speedboat on which, the boat owner had set out to find his crew, According to the Coast Guard. They have all been safely taken to the island of Omadhooo.

The Coast Guard has requested those travelling in the Alihuras Channel to be alert for the vessel, which is now floating with the current in the waters.

Maldives Meteorological Service forecasts scattered rain over the country, with a few heavy showers in central and northern atolls. Surface winds are expected to vary between southwest / westerly at 13 to 23 miles per hour in central and northern atolls and 7 to 17 miles per hour in the south. Winds may gust 45 miles per hour during showers.

Seas are expected to be rough in central and northern atolls and moderate in the south. Maldives is currently experiencing the southwestern monsoon.
