Former Vice president of Human Rights Commission of Maldives, Shifaq Mufeed has assured that President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom had never influenced the commission, during his tenure.
Speaking at the meeting held last night by the government coalition, Shifaq Mufeed who is currently serving as Minister of State for Home Affairs said that, comments were directed towards him too, stating that he was a public figure when he was initially appointed to the position.
He said however, that President Yameen never tried to influence decisions made by the Commission and reiterated that the Commission was one of the most independent institutes in Maldives. In his speech, Shifaq stressed that unlike past administrations, President Yameen's administration continuously strive to work against corruption.
