The Government of Maldives has begun efforts to convert "Farukolhufushi" into a world class event venue.
The project is aimed to ease the space constraints faced in hosting national and regional events in the country. The anticipated heritage island "Farukolhufushi" is set to be ready within the next 2-3 months. The government plans to build multi purposes halls of all sizes around the jetty area of the island.
According to Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Mohamed Simon, the island is being prepped for events while conserving its original state and elements. He said that when the island opens in a span of few months, developers expect the venue will accommodate over 500 people at a given time.
"Farukolhufushi" was one of the first tourist resorts operated in the Maldives.
