Statistics show that the number of cases reported to Maldives Police Service in the first quarter of 2017 has decreased compared to the same period of last year.
A total of 4487 cases were reported to Maldives Police Service in the first quarter of 2016, while the number decreased to 3752 cases in the same period of 2017. This is a decrease of 735 cases, compared to last year.
In the first quarter this year, reported cases to Maldives Police Services include 174 cases of assault, 708 cases of theft, 160 cases of robbery, 545 cases of narcotics and 103 cases of sexual offence. Even though 77 cases of domestic violence were reported last year, this year the number increased to 87.
In addition, accidents, vandalism, embezzlement, check bounce and cases of forgery were also reported in the first quarter this year.
