Tourism Minister says Silk Road Initiative will boost tourism

Minister of Tourism Moosa Zameer has said that with the Silk Road Initiative, the Government of Maldives aims to convey one million tourists to Maldives within a year.

In a special interview to China's Xinhua news, the Tourism Minister said that it will boost investment opportunities and tourism within Maldives.

Moreover, Minister Zameer said the China's Silk Road project has developed the relationship between China and Maldives. He also highlighted that huge infrastructure projects which are being carried out by China in Maldives.

China had marketed over the tourism sector within the last few years. However Chinese market in the tourism sector dropped significantly last year compared to previous years.

China's Silk Road project is a trade and infrastructure network that includes the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road to connect Asia, Europe and Africa. Even though this project mainly supports tourism, One Belt One Road would aware Maldivian investors of the best options to buy products and materials from China.
