Finance Minister meets with JICA officials

Minister of Finance and Treasury Ahmed Munawar meets with the Executive Senior Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Koshikawa Kazuhiko.

In the meeting held at the Pacifico Yokohama, Minister Munawar and the Vice President of JICA discussed ongoing bilateral cooperation initiatives, and on ways to further expedite projects. Furthermore, views were also exchanged on charting the future course of development cooperation.

Minister Munawar was joined at the meeting by the Ambassador of Maldives in Japan Mohamed Hussain Shareef. The Ambassador briefed the Vice President of JICA on the vision of the Government of Maldives on strengthening cooperation with Japan, and emphasized the critical role of JICA in bilateral relations.

Speaking at the meeting, the Executive Senior Vice President of JICA thanked the Government of Maldives for the tremendous support the Agency continues to receive in implementing projects and programmes in the Maldives. He assured the Maldives of JICA's continued support, and noted that the views of senior government officials are essential to formulating future collaborations. He emphasized Japan's enthusiasm in showcasing the technological solutions and superior quality of Japan's projects. He noted that the Maldives is among the countries with long-term affiliation with JICA.

Minister Munawar and Ambassador Shareef were joined at the meeting by the Alternate Governor at the Ministry of Finance and Treasury Abdulla Ali, the First Secretary at the Maldives Embassy in Japan Adam Hamid, the Consultant at the Ministry of Finance and Treasury Mariyam Rashfa and the Second Secretary at the Maldives Embassy in Japan Aminath Shazly Saleem.

The Senior Executive Vice President of JICA was joined by the Director General, South Asia Department of JICA Keichiro Nakazawa, the Deputy Director General, South Asia Department of JICA Masaya Fujimoto and the Director South Asia Department of JICA Haruko Kamei.

Minister Munawar is on a four-day official visit to Japan to attend the 50th Annual Meeting of ADB.
