President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom has urged citizens to refrain from obstructing national development and progress. The President made the statement at the function held this afternoon to handover membership forms of 500 new members of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
Noting that defaming the country results in damages to the country, President Yameen noted that the opposition while raising their voice in the name of reform, fail to pinpoint the areas that need reform. The president also said that if political parties wish to hold negotiations regarding the release of prisoners, that too can be arranged. He said that if the opposition wishes authorities to release former President Mohamed Nasheed and sends a letter to that effect signed by all opposition leaders to parliament, he would try to make that happen by amending the laws. The President also reiterated his call on all political leaders to work in unity for the progress and benefit of the Maldivian citizens.
At the function held at Dharubaaruge convention centre, 200 party application forms from Male' and 300 application forms from across the atolls were handed over to the President.
