WAMCO opens registration for waste collection service

Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has opened registration for entire Male' city, for their waste collection service.

Prior to this decision, waste collection service by WAMCO was available only for 350 registered households in the southern area of Majeedhee Magu in Male' City. Waste collection service from households in Male' city, is a service provided by WAMCO, with the aim of sustainable waste management in the city. Waste collection service is being provided at the rate of MVR 100 per building, MVR 150 per household and MVR 10 for every 10 liters of waste.

Manager of Business Development at WAMCO Mohamed Iqbal said that WAMCO uses the latest equipment in their service and assured that the company is fully prepared to expand its service to the entire city. WAMCO has urged as many households as possible to register for their service.

Collection Service Manager Hidhaya Naseer said that they are already receiving great support from the city. The government has provided a plot of one hectare from the Industrial Village in Male' City to WAMCO, for waste management. The government has also provided two heavy vehicles to WAMCO. The vehicles used by WAMCO are environmentally friendly and approved by Environmental Protection Agency. These include a compactor truck, dump truck and a special tricycle which would be used for collection, according to WAMCO.
