Maldivian expands fleet to 21 aircrafts

National airline, Maldivian, has added a new seaplane to Maldives, expanding its fleet to 21 aircrafts. The DHC-6 Twin Otter Aircraft brought from Switzerland is to be utilized for domestic travel.

In an interview with PSM News, the Managing Director of Island Aviation, Abdul Haris, said that Island Aviation sees it important to be better equipped to serve a larger influx of tourists, at a time when tourism is being expanded and airports are being developed. Noting that some of these airports would be in operation this year, Haris said that Island Aviation is trying to expand its fleet even further.

Island Aviation has been providing seaplane transfers to six resorts in Maldives. It operates over 15 sea plane flights daily, according to the company.

The 15 seat DHC-6 Twin Otter Aircraft is the 10th addition to the seaplane fleet operated by Island Aviation. The company plans to use the new aircraft in its regular operations soon.
