Saudi King’s state visit to Maldives postponed

The upcoming state visit by his majesty King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia has been postponed due to the high prevalence of the flu in the Maldives, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohamed Asim announced on Friday.

In a press conference held at the President’s Office, Foreign Minister said that a date for the King’s visit would be confirmed and announced later.

The Minister highlighted on the close friendly ties between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia and expressed confidence of continued close relations between the two nations.

The Saudi king has already visited Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei and Japan as part of his month long Asian tour, in a bid to attract investment for ambitious reform plans. King Salman signed numerous trade and bilateral agreements during these visit.

 After conclusion of the Asia tour, King Salman will head to Jordan on March 27 where he will attend the annual Arab summit.
