Sail Maldives Yacht Rally begins with over 40 yachts

The biggest sailing event to be held in the Maldives, Sail Maldives Yacht Rally, has begun with the participation of 40 yachts from around the world.

The biggest yacht rally to be held in the Indian Ocean, Sail Maldives Yacht Rally, sees inclusion of yachts from the USA, Australia, New Zealand, France, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. The event is organised by a Maldivian company which specializes in travel and tourism services, Luxury Collections. During the event, which began on 25th February, 40 yachts will sail from the far north to the far south of the Maldives, stopping at 42 various islands along the way.

The main purpose of the event is to further promote Maldives as a destination and market the white sandy beaches, the deep blue oceans, crystal clear lagoons and underwater flora and fauna, according to the organisers.

The rally began from Uligamu island of Haa Alif Atoll, and will conclude on April 25th with an Ocean Festival in Addu Atoll, which will feature beach games, the launch of beach golf, and many performances and cultural displays. Special activities will be held at each island checkpoint, including snorkeling and cultural performances.

Sail Maldives Yacht Rally, the biggest event of its kind in the Indian Ocean will cover an area of 470 miles, according to Luxury Collections.
