Maldives Ambassador in China Mohamed Faisal has said that he was very impressed with the Government Work Report delivered on Sunday morning and expressed his desire to further cooperate with the Chinese government and companies in culture and tourism sectors while aligning with China's Belt and Road Initiative.
He was invited to listen to the report that Premier Li Keqiang delivered the annual session of the National People's Congress kicked off. "For me, the most impressive thing of the Government Work Report was that China's economic and social performance was better than projected. Last year's performance was much better both economically and socially," Faisal told China Daily.
There are very good signs for 2017, he said. "I am very pleased to see the Belt and Road Initiative is an important part of the national work this year while other initiatives, including the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei integration, are key components of the national economy, he added.
"It's something that is for us is useful to know. I was also impressed with the work of poverty alleviation, and I think the targets set for 2017 and beyond can be achieved. In terms of the control of environmental pollution, it's also an important issue for internationally as well. It's good to see China is always taking the leading role,” he said.
"What is happening domestically can now be transferred internationally. Thus China's leadership in environmental protection is also important. These are some highlights for me." In addition, the ambassador said Maldives is a key part of the Maritime Silk Road and was the first country in South Asia to sign a memorandum of understanding with China promoting the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, which is crucial for further cooperation including culture and tourism.
