Discussions underway to seek market for Maldivian tuna products

Fisheries Minister Dr. Mohamed Shainee has held discussions with his South African Counterpart, Senzeni Zokwana.

The meeting was held this morning at the Fisheries Ministry of South Africa in Cape Town. The meeting was attended by International Pole and Line Foundation's Chairman, John Burton. Speaking to PSM News about his meeting with the African minister, Dr. Shainee said that his counterpart had assured to work with Maldives to further strengthen the fisheries sector.

“I have also invited South African Fisheries Minister to attend an industry meeting which is scheduled to be held in April of this year. The Minister has accepted my invitation,” he added.

During his visit, Fisheries Minister Shainee will also hold discussions with South African businesses to seek market for canned tuna products from the Maldives. The trip is part of the government's efforts to introduce local fish products to new markets across the globe, according to the Ministry of Fisheries.

Dr. Shainee's visit to South Africa is aimed at marketing Maldivian fish products.
