President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that $10 billion would be invested in the proposed mega project in Faafu Atoll, making it the largest project to be conducted in Maldives
Speaking at a function held at the convention hall of STELCO, President Yameen denied the rumors that the government was willing to sell the atoll to the government of Saudi Arabia and emphasised that his administration would not sell any part of the country.
“The project in Faafu Atoll would transform the country's economy and bring unprecedented benefits to the whole country,” the President added. “The project would be carried in a special economic zone and would end the dependence on the tourism sector.”
The President urged the public to work for the betterment of the country and to refrain from jeopardising such important projects.
