Workshop held on Impact assessment of trade liberalisation

The Ministry of Economic Development on Sunday commenced a capacity building workshop on impact assessment of preferential trade liberalisation.

Experts from the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific are facilitating the workshop being held at Customs Building in Male' City.

Speaking at the inauguration of the 2-day workshop, Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed highlighted the importance of organising such workshops at a time when the Maldives is on the verge of signing a free trade agreement with China and negotiating such agreements with other nations.

“The government is negotiating with Hong Kong and have invited few other countries such as the United States, Japan and the United Kingdom to establish free trade agreements,” he said.

Minister Saeed further said he was confident that UNESCAP would continue as a strong partner in supporting the Government in building capacity in trade-related fields.
