SAARC Secretary General pays farewell call on President

Secretary General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), Arjun Bahadar Thapa on Tuesday paid a farewell call on President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

During the call held Tuesday morning at the President’s Office, the President expressed appreciation for the assistance and support rendered by Arjun Bahadar Thapa during his tenure. President Yameen also expressed his confidence in the potential of the existing South Asian Free Trade Area to enhance the economic and social development of the region. Furthermore, the President voiced the need for further strengthening the role of SAARC by working closely with the Member States to achieve mutually favourable outcomes and wished the Secretary General well in his future endeavours.

The President was accompanied at the farewell call by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Asim and Minister of State at the President’s Office, Mohamed Naseer.
