The Government will take further measures this year to remove obstacles to doing business in the country, Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed said on Sunday.
He made the statement at a meeting held between the Economic Ministry and law firms to deliberate measures that need to be implemented to improve the country’s ranking on the World Bank's Ease of Doing Business Index.
“The Government has major plans to make the country more investor-friendly and economically prosperous,” Minister Saeed said. “The country aims to climb into the top 50 of the World Bank's ease of doing business rankings, and we are now working with relevant government authorities in order to achieve this target.”
In 2015, the President established a national trade facilitation committee, chaired by the Economic Minister, to achieve the reform memorandum issued by the World Bank in order to improve the country's ranking on the ease of doing business list.
The Maldives is currently ranked 135th on the World Bank's Ease of Doing Business Index.
