Maldives Customs Service (MCS) on Thursday held a special function to mark this year's International Customs Day.
Minister of Home Affairs, Azleen Ahmed officiated the function, which was attended by Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, Commissioner General of Customs, and executives from MCS and various other organisations.
Speaking at the function held at the MCS building, Home Minister Azleen Ahmed hailed the progress achieved by MCS on regional level, noting that the agency now has World Customs Organisation (WCO) accredited trainers. He also stressed that the service provided by MCS should be fair and equal to everyone and revealed that an audit such as the recent Gateway Control audit at Velana International Airport will soon be conducted at the Male’ Commercial Harbour.
At the function, 13 officers were presented the World Customs Organisation’s Certificates of Merit for their commendable work towards this year's theme "Data Analysis for Effective Border Management."
138 officers, who served MCS for more than 20 years, were awarded plaques of appreciation at the function.
