Gov’t to conduct arts programmes for children living in shelters

Ministry of Gender and Family on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Centre of Arts (NCA) to conduct programmes in the field of arts for children residing in shelters and children with disabilities.

“Through this partnership, NCA will conduct regular art and music lessons for children between the age of 6 and 10 years residing at Fiyavathi in Hulumale' and for children above the age of 10 years living in Kudakushinge Hiya in Villimale',” the Ministry said in a statement. The Ministry will also work in collaboration with NCA to conduct special arts programmes for children with disabilities.

“The Ministry hopes that these programmes can help children enhance their sense of creativity, discover new interests and talents and also be a form of therapy and self-expression,” it said.
