Maldives draws up framework to implement National Health Plan

The Ministry of Health on Wednesday held a workshop to formulate a framework to implement goals set in the National Health Strategic Plan 2016-2030.

The one-day workshop, titled ‘National Workshop on Sustainable Development Goals Core Health Indicators,’ was held in Paradise Island Resort.

The 15-year National Health Strategic Plan was drawn up as part of the effort to improve and enhance the health sector as well as to bolster the work being done to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), according to the Health Ministry.

“The workshop was aimed at formulating a framework for implementing the health plan in order to achieve one of the 17 SDGs, ‘Good Health and Well-being,’ the Ministry said, and chart the way to implement the plan more effectively and efficiently.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, State Minister at the Health Ministry, Hussein Rasheed said the government was putting more efforts and resources to achieve the SDGs.

At the ceremony, WHO Representative to the Maldives, Dr Arvind Mathur praised the Maldives for its tremendous achievements in the health sector.

65 officials from the health sector participated in the workshop which was facilitated by WHO-SEARO Regional Advisor Dr Mark Landry.
