Velana International Airport (VIA) saw an 8 percent increase in revenue collected as Airport Service Charge (ASC) in 2016, according to data released by Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA).
Statistics showed that service charge collected by the airport increased to MVR537 million in 2016, from MVR496 million in 2015.
ASC is charged at a rate of US$25 per foreign passenger and US$12 per Maldivian passenger.
MIRA attributed the rise in revenue from airport service charge to the increase in passenger traffic.
