Ensuring security of tourists remains a top priority: Minister

Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer has said that ensuring the safety and security of tourists visiting the Maldives remains a top priority of the government.

He made the remarks at the inauguration ceremony of Maldives Counter Terrorism Security Workshop 2017 that began in Kurumba Maldives Resort on Tuesday.

The workshop, which focused on countering terrorism and improving security for tourists, is organised by Maldives Police Service in partnership with the UK’s Metropolitan Police, Ministry of Tourism, and Ministry of Home Affairs.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer said as the threat of terrorism grows across the globe, the Maldives should not think itself immune to the threats terrorists pose, and highlighted the government's efforts to counter such threats. Noting the tourism is one of the major pillar of the country's economy, he said the Government accords high priority to ensure the safety of tourists who visit the country.

The two-day workshop is facilitated by experts from the Metropolitan Police.
