Every government should drive development: President Yameen

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom on Tuesday stated that it was the responsibility of every administration to work with the people and to drive development.

He made the statement at a ceremony held to inaugurate a new mosque and a harbour in Magoodhoo Island, North Nilandhe Atoll.

“Irrespective of geographical location, when it comes to development there should be no distinctions between islands whether small or large in terms of population; each administration should work to fulfil basic needs,” he said, adding that the contentment of the residents was essential.

Noting the importance his administration afforded to further develop the education sector by advancing teachers, the President said the greatest blessing a society could have was well-educated and cultured citizens with leadership ability.

He announced that a future development project to be undertaken in North Nilandhe Atoll would create more jobs and financial opportunity for the people.

During the ceremony, Bilehdhoo Member of the People’s Majlis, Ahmed Mubeen presented the President with a plaque of appreciation recognising his contributions to the development of Magoodhoo.

The MVR40.1 million harbour was built by the Maldives Contracting Company and measures 500 feet long and 250 feet wide.
