Maldives Ambassador to Germany, Jameela Ali Khalid on Thursday met with Education Minister Dr Aishath Shiham.

During the meeting held at the Education Ministry, both the Ambassador and the Minister discussed how the Maldives could seek Germany's assistance and cooperation in further developing the education sector. They also deliberated on enlisting Germany’s help to improve technical and vocation training programmes in the Maldives and increasing scholarship opportunities for Maldivians.

At the meeting, Minister Aishath Shiham floated the idea of introducing German language as an optional subject in schools in the Maldives, saying it will open new opportunities for students to pursue careers in the tourism and hospitality industry.

Ambassador Jameela also noted the immense contribution Germany has made towards development of the Maldives over the past fifty years, adding that she will work to further strengthen relations between the two countries during her tenure.
