President’s efforts contributed to decline in crime: Shareef

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s efforts to mend the country's torn social fabric has resulted in a significant decline in the overall crime rate, Defence Minister Adam Shareef Umar has said.

He made the remarks at a gathering held Wednesday night at the Alimas Carnival under the initiative of First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim.

Speaking at the gathering, Minister Adam Shareef noted the progress the country has achieved under President Yameen and called on people to support the president's reelection bid.

“The President has enlivened the country,” he further said, and praised the administration's efforts to protect the nation's Islamic faith and religious unity.

At the gathering, the First Lady met residents of Male', Villimale’, and Hulhumale' and inquired about the difficulties faced by them.

Cabinet ministers, parliament members and senior government officials attended the gathering.
