Local NGOs to launch Syria aid campaign this week

A campaign aimed at helping Syrians affected by their country's ongoing civil war will be launched in the Maldives this week, a group of NGOs said on Sunday. The announcement was made at a press conference held at the Senaco Hall of PSM Radio Building.

Donations from the first round of the campaign will go towards helping those affected by the brutal war in Syria, according to the group which comprises 10 civil society organisations.

“We are hoping to send three containers of aid to Syrians in the besieged city of Aleppo under the campaign,” Adam Naif, a spokesperson for the group, said. “The aid will include food items, clothes, mattresses, blankets, and other essential items.”

Donations collected through the campaign will be delivered to the Syrians through a Turkish humanitarian NGO, IHH, the group said. Last week, the group said it was planning a series of campaigns to help Muslims suffering due to conflicts around the world.
