MNDF assists Sri Lankan vessel in distress near Makunudhoo

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) on Thursday assisted a Sri Lankan fishing vessel in distress around 153 nautical miles off Makunudhoo Island of Haa Dhaalu Atoll.

The disabled vessel with four people on board was located by a Coast Guard patrol boat in the early hours of Thursday, MNDF said. “Three of them are in good health while one required medical assistance,” it added.

MNDF began searching for the vessel upon request from the Sri Lankan authorities on Monday.

Last week, MNDF rescued two Sri Lankan fishermen from vessel in distress near Thuraakunu Island.
