Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim has said the Government plans to provide more scholarships for medical specialisation. He said the scholarships will be financed through the Government budget and foreign aid but did not specify the number of scholarships to be awarded under the plan.
The administration accords high priority to train doctors and health specialists, he said, highlighting that 40 individuals have completed medical studies and specialisation programmes over the past three years through Government-funded scholarships.
In 2016, the Government in collaboration with Nepal’s National Academy of Medical Science provided eight scholarships to pursue specialty training.
193 local doctors are currently working at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), the biggest hospital in the country, of which 74 are specialists.
