Ministry of Foreign Affairs has welcomed the United Nations Security Council for adopting a resolution demanding an end to Israeli settlements.
Foreign Ministry said that the resolution shows leadership in bringing Israeli occupation of Palestine to an end.
The Ministry further added that the resolution, the first adopted by the council on Israel and the Palestinians in nearly eight years, was a historic step.
The Palestinians want an independent state in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem, areas Israel captured in a 1967 war.
Under the U.N. Charter, U.N. member states have to agree to accept and carry out the decisions of the Security Council.
