President appeals to follow Islamic values of unity and equality

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom appeals to the nation to follow the Islamic teachings of unity and equality. The President made the appeal in his message on the auspicious occasion of the birth anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

In his message President Yameen stated that the main aim of commemorating the occasion should be to accept the Islamic values embodied by the Prophet and to learn lessons from his noble life.

The President also highlighted the major lessons that should be learnt from the life of the Prophet and to remain within the Islamic faith, to maintain brotherly relationships with one another and to be caring towards each other.

The President added that it is our duty to maintain kinship and to live with peace and harmony.

Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) was born in Mecca, now in Saudi Arabia, in the year 570 of the Gregorian calendar.

Muslims observe Prophet’s birthday on the 12th day of the Islamic month of Rabi' al-awwal.

The birth anniversary of the Prophet is a public holiday in many Islamic countries.
