Prosecutor General’s Office says that 218 defendants were offered a second chance under the diversion program for first-time offenders, this year.
PG Office revealed that in the third quarter of this year, 41 defendants were given a second chance.
According to the PG Office, a total of 414 applicants joined the program, last year.
The program for first-time offenders is aimed to prevent young offenders from committing further crimes by offering them a second chance.
This program is a way for a defendant to avoid the full penalties of a criminal prosecution.
