Surge barrier to be built along Male’ eastern coastline

Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has revealed plans to build a barrier to protect the eastern coastline of Male’ City from tidal surges.

Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said the barrier will be built as part of the proposed development of the eastern seaside which is aimed at providing space for businesses and facilities for youth.

Highlighting that tidal surges often affect the eastern seaside, Minister Muizzu said the surge barrier will prevent flooding and safeguard properties in the area.

The design and the environment impact assessment report of the protective barrier have now been completed, according to the minister.

He also revealed that the proposed King Salman Mosque will be built on the eastern side of Male’ City.
