The Maldives on Tuesday marked the National Youth Day.
The theme for this year’s National Youth Day is “Zuvaanunnai-Umeedh”, meaning “Youth and Hope.”
Speaking on the occasion, Minister of Youth and Sports Iruthishaam Adam noted the important role played by youth in national development, adding that young people are intrinsically connected to the nation’s prosperity.
Ministry of Youth and Sports has planned special activities across the country to mark the day, including a special function for Tuesday night that will be attended by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
The National Youth Award will also be presented at the function. The awards will presented in 11 categories including the areas of sports, crafts, performing arts, music, and social service.
The Youth Centre in Male’ is also holding various activities to mark the day, including a youth festival which is set to open in Hulhumale’ Friday night.
