Customs officers trained under HCFC phase-out plan

The Ministry of Environment and Energy has concluded a training workshop for customs officers under the HCFC Phase-out Management Plan of the Montreal Protocol on ozone depleting substances.

During the one-day workshop, participants were provided information on the implementation policy of the Montreal Protocol in the Maldives and procedures for controlling and monitoring imports of Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS).

Along with classifying ODS and role of enforcement officers in their control, the programme concluded with practical exercises for the participants.

The Customs said over 250 customs officers have so far been trained through the programme.

The objective of the workshop was to provide customs officers with the necessary skills to monitor and control the imports of controlled or banned ozone depleting substances and detection and prevention of illegal trade of these substances, according to the Environment Ministry.
